Shri Sundaramoorthi (1942–2024), upheld the sacred tradition and eventually moved the family’s practice to Chidambaram, drawn by the divine energy of Lord Nataraja’s temple and the city’s cosmic alignment.
The story of Nadi astrology’s survival begins with Sarabhoji II Bhonsle (1777–1832), the last sovereign ruler of the Maratha kingdom of Thanjavur. A visionary patron of the arts, literature, and ancient sciences, King Sarabhoji discovered the immense spiritual significance encoded in the ancient palm-leaf manuscripts known as the Nadi Granthas.
Recognizing their divine value, he entrusted the Valluvar community—renowned for their mastery in astrology and spiritual traditions—with the task of translating these ancient texts from Sanskrit into classical Tamil. This act ensured that the Tamil-speaking public could also access their karmic and spiritual blueprints.
Under King Sarabhoji's direction, the manuscripts were preserved in the Saraswathi Mahal Library in Thanjavur (Thanjai). Though many other ancient texts were removed during British colonial rule, the Nadi leaves remained untouched, protected by destiny itself—too esoteric for outsiders to decode.
Our family’s deep connection to Nadi astrology begins in the late 19th century. Around 1860–1870, Shri Aarumugam (1840–1933), a spiritually awakened soul and ancestor of our lineage, retrieved the original Nadi palm leaves from British custody and began offering readings at Vaitheeswaran Temple around 1874—the spiritual epicenter of Nadi astrology.
His son, Shri Dharmalinganar (1858–1936), continued this divine service inside the sanctum of the Vaitheeswaran Temple, offering sacred readings to seekers from all walks of life.
Next came Shri Subramaniyanar (1896–1959), who established an independent Nadi centre nearby, further nurturing this ancient practice.
His son, Shri Sundaramoorthi (1942–2024), upheld the sacred tradition and eventually moved the family’s practice to Chidambaram, drawn by the divine energy of Lord Nataraja’s temple and the city’s cosmic alignment.
Many believe Chidambaram lies near the Earth’s magnetic equator, and that Lord Nataraja’s big toe in the temple marks the cosmic center point of Earth’s geomagnetic field. This makes it not only a sacred Shiva temple but a center of cosmic intelligence.
After realizing this mystical truth and Chidambaram’s alignment with universal energies, Shri Sundaramoorthi relocated the family’s sacred centre to this spiritually potent land.
Today, the lineage is carried forward by Guruji Bohar Tamilkumaran, and I, Bharadwajan, his son, walk this ancient path with deep reverence and responsibility.
To make this sacred knowledge accessible to all, we now offer Nadi astrology readings online, so that people from anywhere in the world can receive guidance from the comfort of their home.
From early childhood, we undergo 10–12 years of disciplined training, learning to interpret the sacred palm-leaf manuscripts with humility, precision, and devotion—just as our ancestors did.
